Roll Pins are a simple but highly versatile engineering component used to replace rivets, split pins, taper pins, dowel pins, bolts, etc. They are slotted to permit compression when inserted into the drilled hole, the elasticity of the material then exerting a continuous radial force over the full length of the pin. Metric Sizes are available in ISO 8752 and ASME 18.8.4M, see note below.

ASME is the preferred standard for a number of reasons;

 

No Interlocking: Slot gap width is less than the wall thickness which makes them ideal for plating

 

Lower diameter tolerance compared to ISO type up to 2.5mm meaning 1.5 to 2.5mm require a change in the maximum hole diameter;

Lower Insertion Force: Smaller diameter to nominal hole ration due to increased wall thickness, higher minimum hardness and minimal slot gap after insertion.


 
Higher Shear Strength: Due to increased wall thickness, higher hardness and narrow slot.
